Seattle, Washington – Heavy rain and possible thunderstorms could disrupt commutes across western Washington today, with peak activity expected after 5 p.m. Tuesday. Drivers on I-5 and I-90 should prepare for reduced visibility and slick roads, especially during the evening rush hour.

According to the National Weather Service, the Seattle area faces an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening. South to southwest winds between 6–10 mph will accompany the system, but localized gusts may occur near storm cells. Rainfall totals will likely remain under a tenth of an inch, though higher amounts are possible with thunderstorms.

By Tuesday night, showers will continue with lingering thunderstorm potential, gradually tapering off after midnight. Low temperatures will dip to 47°F under mostly cloudy skies. Light wind conditions will help clear skies into Wednesday, bringing a drier stretch ahead.

Wednesday will offer a break in the rain with partly sunny skies and a high near 64°F. Winds remain light, shifting slightly overnight into Thursday, which looks mostly sunny with highs climbing into the upper 60s.

Looking ahead to the extended five-day forecast:

  • Friday brings more sunshine and the week’s warmest temperatures, nearing 68°F.
  • Saturday and Sunday both hold slight chances for afternoon showers with highs in the low 70s—classic early summer weather for the Puget Sound region.
  • Memorial Day on Monday may include another round of light rain, though skies should remain partly sunny with highs in the low 70s.
