Spokane, WA – Freezing fog and wintery weather are set to affect the Inland Northwest this week, with snow anticipated by Friday. Commuters and travelers are advised to prepare for hazardous conditions, particularly during the morning hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, patchy freezing fog will linger Wednesday morning, potentially limiting visibility on key roadways, including I-90 and U.S. Highway 2. By Friday, a stronger system is expected to bring mountain snow and a lowland wintry mix, creating slick roads and delays over mountain passes.

Wednesday’s high will hover around 37°F under mostly cloudy skies. Freezing fog could persist into the early afternoon, especially in low-lying areas. Thursday promises partial clearing, but nighttime temperatures will drop to 26°F, increasing risks of icy roads.

The most significant system arrives Friday, with a 50% chance of snow and freezing rain across the region. Higher elevations may receive several inches of snow, while lower areas face freezing drizzle. West-to-southwest winds will add to the challenge for drivers.

Residents should monitor local forecasts and prepare vehicles with winter tires or chains, especially if traveling into the Cascades or North Idaho. The National Weather Service also reminds drivers to allow extra time and maintain safe distances on icy roads.

The weekend will bring a slight reprieve with partly sunny skies Saturday, but freezing fog remains a risk during morning hours. Sunday offers similar conditions with highs in the low 30s.
