Seattle, WA – A powerful blizzard is set to impact the Cascade Passes beginning Tuesday afternoon, creating hazardous travel conditions and potential power outages. Residents and travelers should prepare for snowfall of 4 to 12 inches and wind gusts reaching 60 mph at elevations above 2,500 feet.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the blizzard warning will remain in effect from 4 p.m. Tuesday until 10 a.m. Wednesday. Forecasters warn that reduced visibility, heavy snow, and strong winds could make travel nearly impossible through the affected areas, including the West Slopes North and Central Cascades.

Plan Ahead for Safety

Travelers are urged to delay non-essential trips. If travel is unavoidable, carry a winter survival kit, including blankets, food, water, and a fully charged phone. Visibility is expected to drop significantly near and east of the Cascade Crest, where the strongest winds will occur.

Power Outages Possible

High winds may also damage trees and power lines, potentially causing power outages in mountain communities such as Morton and Lyman. Residents should charge devices and stock up on essentials ahead of the storm.
