Spokane, Washington – A dangerous stretch of extreme heat will grip eastern Washington and north Idaho starting Monday morning, with Spokane and surrounding cities expected to see temperatures soar into the upper 90s and low 100s through Tuesday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Spokane, a Heat Advisory is in effect from 9 a.m. Monday until 9 p.m. Tuesday for much of north central Idaho and eastern Washington. Highs could reach 102°F, with overnight lows offering little relief, staying in the upper 50s to mid-60s.
Cities including Spokane, Pullman, Lewiston, and Coeur d’Alene will be most at risk. Residents without effective cooling or hydration are urged to take precautions. Outdoor workers, the elderly, and those without air conditioning face heightened danger during this two-day heat event.
Cooling centers are expected to open in several counties, and officials recommend drinking plenty of fluids, avoiding strenuous activity during peak hours, and checking on neighbors and vulnerable individuals.
This heat wave follows a relatively mild June but may mark the beginning of a prolonged hot stretch. Warnings remain in effect through 9 p.m. Tuesday, and additional advisories could follow later in the week.
