Washington, D.C. – A cold front sweeping across the Mid-Atlantic this morning is bringing a sharp shift toward cooler, fall-like weather, with breezy conditions expected through Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Baltimore/Washington, the front could trigger a few isolated showers or a rumble of thunder east of the Blue Ridge and closer to the Chesapeake Bay before high pressure builds in. Behind the system, northwest winds may gust 15 to 20 mph, ushering in cooler air and much drier skies.
Highs across the Washington metro will settle into the upper 70s through midweek, while overnight lows dip into the mid-50s. Mountain communities from western Maryland into eastern West Virginia will feel the chill more strongly, with overnight lows dropping into the upper 40s by Tuesday night.
Drivers should be alert to gusty crosswinds on elevated roadways, particularly along I-70 and I-81. Residents are encouraged to secure lightweight outdoor items that could be blown around. With humidity levels dropping, those spending time outdoors should also stay hydrated.
Sunny and dry conditions will dominate through Wednesday, with the next chance of unsettled weather expected later in the week.
