Washington, D.C. – Areas of fog and low clouds are creating reduced visibility along Interstate 66, I-495 and portions of I-95 early Wednesday, prompting drivers to use caution during the morning commute.

The National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington reports that fog will gradually lift and clouds will break for some sunshine by early afternoon. Morning visibility may dip below a mile in spots, especially near rivers, valleys and low-lying areas around the Capital Beltway and along I-270 toward Frederick.

High temperatures Wednesday will climb into the lower to mid-60s across much of the region, including Washington, Baltimore and northern Virginia. Farther west toward the Alleghenies, passing showers are possible, mainly north of I-66 and along the higher terrain of western Maryland and eastern West Virginia.

A stalled frontal boundary near the region will keep weather unsettled heading into Thursday and Friday. Periods of rain are expected to redevelop, particularly Thursday, with cooler highs ranging from the upper 30s to low 50s. Overnight lows will settle into the upper 30s to mid-40s, allowing for additional patches of morning fog both days.

Commuters along I-95 from Baltimore to Washington and drivers along I-81 in western Maryland should plan for wet pavement and fluctuating visibility late this week.

While no severe weather is anticipated, residents are encouraged to allow extra travel time during foggy mornings and rain periods. Conditions will trend cooler but remain seasonable through Friday before the next system approaches over the weekend.
