Jonesborough, TN – A late-night pursuit in Washington County ended with a crash and the arrest of a 30-year-old man accused of stealing a vehicle and fleeing deputies Friday night.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrested Lawrence “Alex” Givens shortly after 10 p.m. on May 1 after he allegedly stole a truck and crashed while attempting to evade law enforcement. Authorities say deputies located Givens at a residence in the 500 block of Hairetown Road, where he had reportedly gone to ask homeowners for help following the crash.
According to Sheriff Keith Sexton, deputies took Givens into custody without further incident at the residence. Officials did not report any injuries related to the crash.
Givens is now facing multiple charges, including theft of property, felony evading arrest, and reckless endangerment, along with additional traffic-related offenses. According to authorities, the charges stem from both the reported vehicle theft and the events that unfolded during the pursuit.
Deputies transported Givens to the Washington County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond. Court records indicate he is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, May 4.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials have not released additional details about the origin of the stolen vehicle or the extent of any property damage from the crash.
