Jonesborough, TN – Washington County Sheriff’s Office officials say a multi-layered drug interdiction strategy is making measurable progress in removing illegal narcotics from local communities this year.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies have seized significant amounts of methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, cocaine and other drugs through patrol arrests, a specialized strike team, and federal task force operations during the first 11 months of 2025.
“We know this is just the tip of the iceberg, but we will continue to chip away,” Sheriff Keith Sexton said in a statement, noting that drug conspiracy investigations often take years to fully dismantle.
The Patrol Division alone made 266 drug-related arrests so far this year. More than half of those arrested were allegedly in possession of methamphetamine. Deputies recovered nearly 2,800 grams of meth, along with fentanyl, heroin, crack cocaine, LSD, marijuana, prescription medications and hallucinogens.
The Sheriff’s Strike Team (SST), which focuses on large-scale trafficking organizations, has seized more than 41 pounds of methamphetamine, over 24,000 fentanyl pills, nearly 3,000 grams of fentanyl powder, and hundreds of grams of heroin and cocaine since the unit’s creation. Investigators also recovered marijuana plants, THC wax, psilocybin mushrooms and anabolic steroids.
A third component of the strategy involves a federally deputized DEA Task Force Officer. According to WCSO, the TFO made 30 federal arrests and executed 17 search warrants in 2025, seizing more than 51 pounds of methamphetamine and hundreds of grams of fentanyl and cocaine. The officer also assisted the DEA in additional seizures totaling 175 pounds of methamphetamine within Washington County.
Sheriff’s officials encourage residents to report suspicious drug activity. Anonymous tips can be submitted by texting WCSOTN followed by tip information to 847411, or through the WCSO website.
