Jonesborough, TN – A routine patrol in Washington County led to a drug arrest today after deputies discovered methamphetamine during an encounter near a local business.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were patrolling Roy Martin Road when they noticed a gray vehicle parked near a dumpster behind a business. The driver, identified as 55-year-old William Joseph Banner of Jonesborough, allegedly told deputies he was “dumpster diving” with permission from the property owner.
Authorities said deputies confirmed Banner had an active warrant for Failure to Appear. While taking him into custody, Banner allegedly informed deputies he had methamphetamine in his front pocket. A search reportedly revealed two baggies containing a crystal-like substance, which Banner allegedly identified as methamphetamine.
Officials said the total weight of the substance was approximately 11 grams. Deputies also reported locating a glass pipe inside the vehicle.
Banner was transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he is being held without bond on the Failure to Appear charge. Additional charges related to possession of methamphetamine and unlawful drug paraphernalia carry a bond set at $2,000.
According to authorities, Banner is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.
The investigation remains ongoing. No additional suspects have been identified at this time.
