Tigard, OR – A domestic disturbance in Tigard turned into a dramatic standoff late Sunday night when a man allegedly barricaded himself inside a home and set it on fire, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 10:49 p.m. Sunday, January 4, to the 17100 block of SW Eldorado Drive. Investigators said 37-year-old Jaime Lopez, who had a felony warrant from the Oregon State Parole Board, refused to leave the home after other family members safely exited.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Lopez told deputies he had access to firearms. The Tactical Negotiations Team and Crisis Negotiations Unit were called to the scene to assist in communication efforts. While negotiators worked to convince Lopez to surrender, authorities said he began igniting fires inside the residence.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue (TVF&R) crews responded to support law enforcement, integrating fire operations with perimeter safety teams. Lopez continued setting fires until he appeared at a front window, where he was rescued by tactical officers and firefighters.

Deputies said Lopez was taken to a local hospital with burn and smoke inhalation injuries. No deputies or firefighters were hurt during the incident.

Once released, Lopez will face multiple charges, including first-degree arson, domestic harassment, and the outstanding felony warrant. Officials said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges may be filed.

Authorities credited the coordinated response from surrounding agencies, TVF&R, and AMR for preventing further damage and injuries.
