Lake Geneva, Wis. – A major reconstruction project along WIS 50 in downtown Lake Geneva is scheduled to begin in spring 2027, triggering long-term traffic impacts through fall 2028.
According to a public notice shared by the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation plans pavement replacement and resurfacing along WIS 50 from Forest Street west of downtown to Grand Geneva Way near Highways 12 and 120.
Project maps show pavement replacement through much of the downtown corridor, with resurfacing planned for outer segments. Improvements will also include traffic signal replacements and RRFB pedestrian crossing upgrades along the route.
The construction zone runs through the city’s central tourism district near Lake Geneva, affecting key access points for businesses, lakefront visitors, commuters and seasonal traffic.
A public involvement meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 19, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lake Geneva City Hall, 626 Geneva Street. Officials are expected to outline staging plans, traffic management strategies and construction phasing.
Because WIS 50 serves as a primary east-west route through the city and connects to Highways 12 and 120, extended construction could affect travel times, summer tourism flow and local commuting patterns for multiple seasons.
Officials have not yet released detour specifics. Additional updates are expected as the 2027 construction start approaches.
