Waco, TX – A Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Trooper’s traffic stop along Interstate 35 near Baylor University led to a major drug bust Tuesday evening, after K-9 Karma detected 24 pounds of suspected fentanyl concealed in a vehicle’s floor.

According to DPS, the trooper pulled the vehicle over less than a quarter mile from Baylor’s campus after noticing signs of possible criminal activity. K-9 Karma was deployed to inspect the vehicle and alerted officers to hidden narcotics. Troopers discovered 10 bricks of suspected fentanyl weighing roughly 24 pounds in total.

The driver was arrested at the scene and later booked into the McLennan County Jail on felony drug charges.

Officials highlighted the extreme danger of fentanyl, noting that just two milligrams can be lethal. “Imagine the deadly impact of 24 pounds,” DPS stated, emphasizing the ongoing efforts of troopers to intercept the dangerous drug before it reaches Texas communities.

DPS continues to investigate the case and reminds the public to report any suspicious activity tied to drug trafficking.
