Petersburg, VA – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for much of central and south-central Virginia beginning Monday morning, with forecasters warning of up to 4 inches of snow and hazardous driving conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, the advisory covers Prince Edward, Mecklenburg, Lunenburg, Nottoway, Brunswick, Dinwiddie, and Greensville counties, where heavy snow is possible between Monday morning and Monday afternoon.
Forecasters say snow totals could reach 3 to 4 inches, with locally higher amounts in some areas. The snow may begin during the early morning commute and could continue into the evening, creating slippery and potentially dangerous travel conditions on untreated roads.
Residents are urged to monitor updated forecasts and prepare for possible school delays, business disruptions, and slower travel Monday. The NWS advises keeping emergency supplies in vehicles and avoiding unnecessary travel during peak snowfall.
The Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, with potential upgrades to a Winter Weather Warning if confidence in heavier snowfall increases.
