Richmond, VA – Heavy snow, freezing rain, and icy conditions are sweeping across Virginia as a winter storm warning remains in effect until early Tuesday. Total snow accumulations of up to 10 inches, with localized amounts reaching 16 inches, are expected in parts of central and northern Virginia.

According to the National Weather Service, untreated and unplowed roads, including sections of I-95, could become impassable during peak snowfall. Motorists are strongly urged to avoid unnecessary travel and use extreme caution if travel is essential. Freezing drizzle is also possible through the morning, with another round of snow expected later this evening.

By Tuesday, snowfall will taper off, leaving a frigid start to the day with lows near 19°F. Tuesday’s high is forecasted at 31°F under mostly sunny skies. Conditions will improve midweek with highs around 30°F on Wednesday and 27°F on Thursday, but nighttime temperatures will remain dangerously low.

Residents are advised to prepare for potential power outages due to heavy snow on trees and power lines. Emergency kits, including flashlights, water, and blankets, should be readily available. For up-to-date road conditions, dial 511 or visit local Department of Transportation websites.
