San Angelo, TX – A cold weather advisory is in effect for West Central Texas, with freezing temperatures and snow showers expected midweek. Residents should prepare for icy conditions and frostbite risks as wind chills drop to single digits.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), a strong cold front will bring snow showers beginning Wednesday night, with a 60% chance of precipitation on Thursday. Accumulations remain uncertain, but slick roads and hazardous travel conditions are likely.
The NWS forecasts a high of 43 degrees Tuesday before temperatures drop into the mid-20s by Wednesday night. Snow showers are expected late Wednesday, continuing into Thursday with a high of 36 degrees. By Thursday night, wind chills may reach as low as 5 degrees, increasing the risk of hypothermia for those without proper protection.
Highway 277 and other major roads may experience icy patches, and residents are urged to limit travel and use caution while driving. The cold weather advisory, issued through 10 a.m. Monday, warns of frostbite risks for exposed skin within minutes. Residents should layer clothing, avoid prolonged exposure, and keep pets indoors.
Looking ahead, conditions are expected to improve Friday, with sunny skies and a high of 41 degrees. Temperatures will climb further by Saturday, reaching the low 50s. However, residents should monitor updates as forecasts may change.
