Blacksburg, VA – A wind advisory remains in effect across parts of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina as strong northwest winds continue through early Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, sustained winds of 15 to 35 mph with gusts reaching up to 55 mph are expected across the affected regions. The advisory, which began early Thursday, remains in place until 4 a.m. EST Friday in most areas, though some locations will see winds diminish slightly before midnight.
Areas impacted include portions of central, north-central, and western Virginia, along with southeastern West Virginia, western Maryland, and parts of northwestern North Carolina. Cities such as Roanoke, Blacksburg, Winchester, Lexington, and Morgantown could experience hazardous conditions due to wind-blown debris and falling tree limbs. Power outages have been reported in isolated areas, and additional outages remain possible.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects and exercise caution while traveling, particularly in high-profile vehicles that may be more susceptible to strong wind gusts. The National Weather Service advises staying updated on local weather alerts and preparing for potential disruptions.
