Richmond, VA – After a pleasant start to the week, hotter and more humid weather is set to return across eastern Virginia as temperatures climb toward the upper 90s before rain chances increase heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, mostly sunny skies and seasonably warm conditions are expected Tuesday, with afternoon highs ranging from the mid-80s to around 90 degrees. The heat begins building Wednesday and Thursday as humidity increases, making conditions feel much more oppressive.

High temperatures are forecast to reach the mid-90s, with heat index values approaching 100 degrees across parts of eastern and central Virginia by Wednesday and Thursday. Communities including Richmond, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg, Petersburg, Newport News, Hampton, and Suffolk can expect mostly sunny skies and hot, humid afternoons.

The pattern begins to change Friday as moisture returns to the region. Forecasters say isolated to scattered late-day thunderstorms are possible, especially inland, with a better chance for more widespread showers and storms over the upcoming weekend.

While the middle of the week will remain largely dry, residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, take frequent breaks if spending time outdoors, and limit strenuous activity during the hottest part of the afternoon.

Those with outdoor plans later this week and over the weekend should monitor updated forecasts as thunderstorm timing and coverage become more certain.
