Grand Forks, ND – Hot and humid weather will continue across eastern North Dakota and west-central Minnesota this week, with dangerous heat expected to peak Tuesday before a brief break arrives Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, the most intense heat will be focused across southeastern North Dakota into west-central Minnesota, where heat index values could reach as high as 105 degrees Tuesday afternoon. High temperatures will range from 85 to 97 degrees under mostly sunny skies.
Communities including Grand Forks, Fargo, Wahpeton, Devils Lake, Jamestown, Bemidji, Detroit Lakes, and surrounding areas should prepare for another day of oppressive heat and humidity, especially during the afternoon and early evening hours.
Wednesday will bring somewhat cooler conditions, with highs generally ranging from 80 to 95 degrees and increased cloud cover across northern areas. Overnight lows through midweek will remain warm, generally in the 60s to near 70 degrees, providing limited relief from the daytime heat.
By Thursday and Friday, temperatures are expected to climb once again, with highs returning to the mid-80s to upper 90s. While a slight chance of showers may develop across far northern portions of the region later this week, forecasters say rain chances remain limited and scattered.
Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat, wear lightweight clothing, and check on neighbors and relatives who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illness.
