Virginia Beach, Va. – Relentless heat returns Tuesday as much of southeastern Virginia bakes under a dangerous combination of soaring temperatures and suffocating humidity.
An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect from 10 a.m. Tuesday through 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield. Heat index values could spike as high as 112° in cities including Virginia Beach, Suffolk, Norfolk, Chesapeake, and Hampton.
Anyone traveling along I-264, I-64, and Route 58 should prepare for stifling conditions during peak travel hours. Drink water often, wear lightweight clothes, and avoid outdoor work between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.. Heat-related illness can happen fast — check on older neighbors and children who are especially vulnerable.
The heat dome gripping the region will ease slightly by Thursday, but not before pushing high temps into the mid-90s again Wednesday. Tuesday will mark the hottest day of the week, with clear skies offering no relief from the sun.
While this heat wave isn’t record-breaking, it’s the most dangerous stretch of summer 2025 so far. Expect limited wind and minimal cloud cover.
Stay in air-conditioned spaces when possible, and never leave pets or people in parked cars.
⚠️ Next Update: Additional warnings could be issued if conditions worsen.
