Wakefield, Virginia – Residents across eastern Virginia will enjoy a sunny start to the week, but a sharp warm-up could bring thunderstorms by Wednesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, temperatures will climb steadily from the mid-70s today to highs near 88 degrees by midweek. Overnight lows will range from the mid-40s inland tonight to the upper 50s along the coast, before steadily warming into the 60s by Tuesday night.

Tuesday will feature highs between 79 and 84 degrees under partly cloudy skies. Conditions will remain mostly dry until Wednesday when scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Inland areas could see overnight lows between 60–64 degrees, while the Eastern Shore may dip slightly cooler into the upper 50s.

Travelers and commuters should prepare for possible slick roads and limited visibility during Wednesday evening’s storms. Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items, monitor local weather alerts, and have charging options ready in case of isolated power outages.

Unsettled weather could persist into late week, with additional chances for showers and storms expected Thursday and Friday.
