Norfolk, Virginia – An isolated severe storm could sweep through northeastern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia between 7 and 11 p.m. Sunday, bringing the potential for 60 mph wind gusts and hail.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, a slight risk (Level 2 of 5) has been issued for areas south of Richmond, including South Hill, Virginia Beach, and Elizabeth City, NC. Storms are expected to move west to east during the evening hours, with the highest threats being strong winds and quarter-sized hail.

While storm coverage will remain limited, residents across Hampton Roads, Norfolk, and the Outer Banks should secure outdoor items and avoid travel during active storms. Power outages are possible in isolated areas if wind gusts down limbs or wires.

Adding to the unsettled weather, smoke from ongoing wildfires in central Canada continues to drift across the Mid-Atlantic. Though air quality remains unaffected, hazy skies will persist into Monday morning, with limited visibility near sunrise and sunset.

This evening’s storms mark the start of a warmer, drier week ahead, with highs climbing into the upper 80s by midweek. Another round of late-day storms is possible Friday into the weekend.
