A powerful wind system is sweeping through Virginia, bringing gusts up to 55 mph on Friday and a cold start to the weekend. Northern and southwestern parts of the state, including areas along I-95 and I-81, are under a Wind Advisory through Friday night, with the strongest winds expected during the afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service, northwest winds will range from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching 50-55 mph in some areas. Residents should secure outdoor objects and prepare for possible power outages as tree limbs may be knocked down. High-profile vehicles, especially on open highways, should exercise caution due to strong crosswinds.

Friday’s Forecast and Weekend Outlook

Friday will be mostly sunny but breezy, with highs in the upper 40s in northern Virginia and low 50s in the southwest. Winds will gradually calm overnight as temperatures dip into the low 30s statewide.

Saturday will bring partly sunny skies with highs in the low to mid-50s, while Sunday looks slightly warmer, reaching the low 60s in some areas. Expect a dry and mild start to next week, with temperatures climbing into the mid-70s by Wednesday.

Stay updated with local alerts and drive cautiously on wind-exposed highways like I-81 and I-95.
