Wakefield, Va. – After an extended stretch of unsettled weather, much of eastern Virginia and northeast North Carolina will enjoy a pleasant summer weekend to start August, with warm afternoons, low humidity and light winds through Saturday before showers and thunderstorms make a return Sunday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, Friday will feature partly to mostly sunny skies with light winds and afternoon highs ranging from 86 to 90 degrees. Overnight lows will fall into the mid-60s to around 70 degrees, providing comfortable conditions for evening outdoor activities.
Saturday brings another dry day with a little more warmth. High temperatures are expected to reach 87 to 91 degrees under partly to mostly sunny skies, while overnight lows settle between 67 and 72 degrees. The favorable weather should support beach trips, boating, festivals and other outdoor plans across Richmond, Williamsburg, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Newport News, Petersburg and surrounding communities.
Changes arrive on Sunday as moisture increases ahead of the next weather system. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop during the afternoon and evening, with the highest rain chances across inland areas west of the Interstate 95 corridor. Coastal communities may see fewer storms, though any thunderstorm that develops could produce brief heavy rain and lightning.
Residents planning outdoor activities Sunday should monitor the latest forecast and be prepared to move indoors if thunderstorms develop. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated at this time, lightning poses a hazard to anyone on beaches, waterways or athletic fields.
