Annandale, VA – A wet and windy Sunday is in store for Northern Virginia as showers and thunderstorms move through the region. Winds could gust as high as 37 mph, making travel difficult along major roadways like I-495 and Route 50.
According to the National Weather Service, rain will begin early Sunday, intensifying into the afternoon with thunderstorms possible after 2 p.m. Temperatures will reach a high of 72°F, but the storm system will bring a noticeable shift in conditions. Rainfall amounts could range from a quarter to half an inch.
By Sunday night, scattered thunderstorms will linger before clearing after midnight. Winds will remain gusty, peaking at 21 mph. Overnight temperatures will dip to 49°F.
Looking ahead, St. Patrick’s Day on Monday will be cloudy with lingering showers in the morning, but drier air moves in by the afternoon. Highs will reach 57°F before clearing skies bring a cooler overnight low of 39°F.
Tuesday and Wednesday mark a return to spring-like conditions, with sunny skies and highs in the mid-60s. Rain chances return Thursday with a 30% chance of showers. By Friday, temperatures drop slightly, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 52°F.
