TALLAHASSEE, FL – A powerful storm system is set to bring severe thunderstorms, gusty winds, and heavy rain to northern Florida and parts of southern Georgia on Sunday, March 16. Residents should prepare for potential power outages, downed tree limbs, and hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, a wind advisory remains in effect from 11 a.m. EDT Sunday until 4 a.m. Monday. Winds will range between 20 to 25 mph, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph. The strongest winds are expected in the afternoon and evening, especially in the Florida Panhandle, Big Bend, and parts of southeastern Alabama and southern Georgia.

Heavy rainfall may cause localized flooding, particularly in low-lying areas. Motorists should exercise caution on major roadways, including Interstate 10 and U.S. Highway 319, as wet roads and strong crosswinds could make travel difficult.

Sunday morning will start with showers and possible thunderstorms, followed by a break before another round of severe storms develops in the afternoon. The threat of strong wind gusts and isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out.

Looking ahead, Monday, St. Patrick’s Day, will be clear and sunny, with a high near 66°F, offering a break from the stormy weather. The rest of the week will bring mild spring conditions, with temperatures reaching the low 70s by Wednesday.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor objects, avoid unnecessary travel during peak storm hours, and monitor local weather alerts for updates.
