Virginia Beach, VA – A mix of snow, wind, and plunging temperatures is sweeping into coastal Virginia and northeast North Carolina today as a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 2 p.m. to midnight. The National Weather Service in Wakefield warns of snow accumulations up to 2 inches and gusts near 40 mph, especially along the coast and across open fields.

By midafternoon, rain will mix with wet snow across Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Currituck County, making for slick travel conditions along I-64 and Route 168. Commuters heading home this evening should prepare for reduced visibility and slushy roads as surface temperatures hover near freezing.

Forecasters note that while totals will stay light, blowing snow and gusty winds could cause isolated power flickers and travel delays through late evening. Drivers are advised to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow extra distance between vehicles.

Skies clear by Tuesday, bringing calmer weather and sunshine with highs near 42°F. Wednesday warms further into the mid-50s before another chill returns late week. Longer-range models show colder Arctic air likely to press south by Dec. 11–17, signaling the arrival of true December cold across the East Coast.

Five-Day Outlook (Virginia Beach, VA):

  • Tuesday: Mostly sunny, high 42°F.
  • Wednesday: Partly sunny, high 53°F.
