Harrisonburg, VA – Heavy rainfall combined with melting snow is increasing flood risks across western Virginia, western Maryland, and eastern West Virginia today, with a Flood Watch in effect until this evening for several counties.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Baltimore/Washington, 1 to 3 inches of rain are expected across affected areas, with higher amounts in localized spots. This, combined with 2 to 5 inches of snowmelt, could cause flooding of rivers, creeks, and low-lying areas, as well as hazardous conditions at low-water crossings.
Areas under the Flood Watch include Western Highland (VA), Western Pendleton (WV), Garrett County (MD), and Western Grant County (WV). The heaviest rainfall is expected through the afternoon, with conditions improving later tonight.
Residents are advised to stay alert for potential Flood Warnings, monitor road conditions, and avoid flooded areas. For flood safety tips and updates, visit weather.gov/safety/flood.
