Wakefield, VA – Virginia residents near coastal highways and waterways should prepare for gusty winds and worsening weather overnight into Wednesday. Gale Watches have been issued for the Chesapeake Bay, Lower James River, and coastal waters north of the Virginia-North Carolina border. Northwest winds could reach speeds of 40 knots, making marine travel dangerous.

According to the National Weather Service in Wakefield, clouds will increase this evening, with scattered light showers possible overnight. Winds will strengthen ahead of a strong cold front set to arrive Wednesday night. Affected areas could experience hazardous travel conditions, particularly along coastal highways, where gusts will be strongest. Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor objects and avoid unnecessary travel in impacted areas.

The forecast calls for highs reaching the mid-60s to lower 70s today under partly sunny skies. However, temperatures will drop after the cold front passes, with highs on Thursday only reaching the upper 40s. Light rain showers are possible on Wednesday and Thursday, with conditions clearing by Friday.

Looking ahead, Friday and Saturday will feature partly sunny skies with highs in the low 50s. Winds will remain elevated into the weekend, so boaters and those near the water should exercise caution.
