Birmingham, AL – Heavy rain and thunderstorms will affect travel across Alabama through Tuesday night, with patchy fog creating additional hazards into Wednesday morning. Drivers on Interstate 20 and other major routes are urged to exercise caution during peak commuting hours.

According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers and thunderstorms will linger through the evening, with winds gusting up to 30 mph. Rainfall totals could reach up to one inch in some areas. Overnight lows will dip to the mid-50s, bringing a risk of patchy fog, particularly along low-lying roadways.

On Wednesday, decreasing clouds will bring a mix of sunshine and cooler temperatures, with highs ranging from 60 to 70 degrees statewide. Morning fog may slow commutes, but conditions will improve by midday. Gusty winds of up to 15 mph could still impact drivers.

Looking ahead, sunny skies are forecast for Thursday, with a high near 57 degrees. Overnight lows will fall sharply to the mid-30s, raising the potential for areas of frost. Similar conditions will persist Friday, with a high of 53 degrees and a frosty night ahead.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and take precautions against wet roads, fog, and gusty winds. Clear weather later in the week will offer opportunities to complete outdoor tasks or enjoy outdoor events.
