Virginia: Flash Flooding Possible Along Interstate 95, 3+ Inches Hourly Possible

Wakefield, VA – Showers and isolated thunderstorms are moving across Virginia today, with additional storms expected later. Flash flooding is possible across much of the area, particularly central and eastern parts, as well as northeast North Carolina. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for most areas along and east of Interstate 95, including Richmond Metro and Hampton Roads.

According to the National Weather Service Wakefield VA, there is a possibility of isolated rainfall totals of 2 to 3+ inches in an hour or less, potentially resulting in flash flooding. The most likely time frame for heavy rain is from morning through late evening, with the highest risk for localized severe weather during the afternoon and evening.

Localized amounts of 2-3+ inches falling over a short period will lead to flash flooding, especially along and east of I-95. The forecast also includes a low, but non-zero chance of a brief tornado this afternoon or evening.

In addition to today’s severe weather, the 10-day forecast for Wakefield shows a mix of rain and clouds. Tuesday will see temperatures reaching 70°F with a 35% chance of rain. Wednesday has a higher chance of rain at 55%, with temperatures around 73°F. The pattern continues into Thursday with a 45% chance of rain and temperatures around 72°F. By Friday, conditions will start to clear up with partly sunny skies and a high of 68°F. The weekend will bring more stable weather, with Saturday’s forecast showing sunny skies and a high of 65°F.
