Chase City, VA – Residents in Chase City are being urged to boil their tap water before use after a water line leak triggered a precautionary advisory on Sunday.

According to a joint notice from the Virginia Department of Health and the Mecklenburg County Health Department, the advisory was issued due to reduced water pressure caused by repairs on the town’s water system, which is serviced by the Roanoke River Service Authority. Officials are asking residents to use only boiled or bottled water for drinking, food preparation, and cooking until further notice.

The advisory instructs residents to bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute and allow it to cool before use. As an alternative for those without access to boiling methods, public health officials have outlined approved chemical disinfection steps, including bleach treatment and the use of water purification tablets. Potable water is also available at local stores including Food Lion, Market Express, Dollar General, and Family Dollar.

Repairs to the water line are ongoing. Once service resumes, officials noted that temporary discoloration may occur. Residents are advised to flush their taps for several minutes to resolve the issue.

The advisory, dated May 4, 2025, will remain in effect until testing confirms the water is safe to consume. Updates will be issued once the situation is resolved.
