Maryland – Cold weather will grip Maryland and Virginia starting Tuesday night, bringing dangerous wind chills as low as -20 degrees. The National Weather Service has issued Cold Weather Advisories for the Allegheny region and the Blue Ridge crest. Residents should prepare for sub-zero conditions that could pose a risk to exposed skin.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service, wind chills could reach between -10 to -15 degrees elsewhere in the region. The advisory spans late Tuesday into early Wednesday, warning of hypothermia risks for those without proper shelter or adequate clothing. Officials urge individuals to limit outdoor activity during peak cold hours and dress in layers if heading outside.
The National Weather Service forecasts breezy conditions along with passing clouds and mountain snow showers in some areas. Despite daytime temperatures above freezing, nighttime and early-morning hours will see conditions turn icy. Emergency management teams recommend checking on vulnerable neighbors and ensuring pets remain indoors.
For commuters, black ice may form on untreated roads, posing hazards during Wednesday morning’s commute. Public safety officials advise travelers to remain cautious and allow extra travel time. Residents are also encouraged to protect water pipes and prepare for potential power outages caused by cold stress on energy systems.
The cold front is part of an Arctic blast affecting much of the Mid-Atlantic this week. Updates on the advisory and safety tips can be found on the National Weather Service website.
