Burlington, VT – Vermont residents are bracing for a round of winter weather that could significantly impact travel later this week. Scattered snow showers are expected today, with 1 to 3 inches of snow possible in higher elevations, particularly in the western Green Mountains.

According to the National Weather Service, a stronger system is forecast to bring widespread snow beginning Wednesday evening and continuing through Thursday. Up to 5 inches of accumulation is expected in central and northern Vermont, with some upslope areas potentially seeing higher totals. Gusty winds between 15 to 30 mph may exacerbate hazardous travel conditions, especially on major roadways like Interstate 89.

Today’s high temperatures will range from the mid-20s to mid-30s, with overnight lows in the 20s. Scattered snow showers may linger into the evening, resulting in minor accumulation on untreated roads.

Looking ahead, Wednesday will start cloudy, with snow becoming likely after 5 p.m. Thursday could see the heaviest snowfall, with highs near 36°F and wind gusts reaching 26 mph. By Friday, blustery but drier conditions will prevail, with highs in the mid-20s.

Residents should monitor weather updates and plan for potentially hazardous driving conditions, especially during Wednesday night’s commute. Officials advise preparing vehicles for winter travel by checking tire pressure and carrying emergency kits.
