Burlington, VT – A winter weather advisory is now in effect across northern Vermont and portions of northern New York as a mix of snow and ice threatens travel and power lines through Sunday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, the advisory begins at 8 p.m. Friday and remains active until 8 p.m. Sunday. Forecasts call for total snow accumulations between 3 and 7 inches, along with ice buildups ranging from one-tenth to three-tenths of an inch.
The most hazardous conditions are expected Friday night into Saturday, with snow and ice continuing to accumulate through Sunday. Isolated to scattered power outages may occur due to ice and snow loading on trees and power lines.
Affected areas include Burlington, Montpelier, St. Albans, and St. Johnsbury in Vermont, as well as Plattsburgh and Dannemora in northern New York. Travel could become hazardous, particularly on untreated roads and during peak accumulation periods.
Residents are advised to prepare for slippery conditions, reduce travel if possible, and keep emergency supplies on hand in case of outages. Motorists should slow down and allow extra travel time throughout the weekend.
