Sacramento, CA – A fresh burst of snow is blanketing the Northern California mountains, with impacts expected to linger through the end of the workweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 5 p.m. PDT Friday for Western Plumas County, Lassen Park, and the West Slope of the Northern Sierra Nevada. The storm is forecast to deliver 3 to 7 inches of snow above 5,500 feet, with peak elevations potentially receiving up to 10 inches.

Travelers should prepare for slippery roads, chain controls, and delays, particularly along higher elevation routes like Highway 50 and Interstate 80 near Blue Canyon. The snowfall may significantly affect the Friday morning commute, especially in areas such as Quincy and Chester.

Caltrans urges drivers to check conditions via quickmap.dot.ca.gov or by dialing 511. Officials recommend slowing down, keeping a winter emergency kit, and using caution on mountain roads.

This late-season system continues a pattern of intermittent storms for the Sierra region, where snowfall remains vital for water supply but presents ongoing transportation hazards.
