Burlington, VT – High winds are sweeping through Vermont today, creating hazardous conditions for travelers and homeowners. A wind advisory remains in effect for Grand Isle, Western Chittenden, and Western Franklin Counties until 5 p.m., with gusts reaching 50 mph.
According to the National Weather Service, south winds between 20 and 30 mph are driving the strong gusts. Residents are urged to secure outdoor objects, as gusts may topple shallow-rooted trees and cause scattered power outages. High-profile vehicles should avoid U.S. Route 2 near Grand Isle due to dangerous crosswinds.
This weekend’s weather remains active. Tonight, temperatures will drop to 17°F, with a chance of rain turning to snow after midnight. Sunday brings mostly sunny skies early, followed by snow showers in the evening, with accumulations of up to 2 inches possible.
Looking ahead to Monday, frigid conditions settle in. Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be partly sunny with highs of 12°F, but wind chills will make it feel much colder. By midweek, dangerously cold conditions are forecast, with wind chills between -10°F and -20°F expected by Tuesday night.
