New York, NY – A winter storm is set to bring snow and freezing rain to New York City, Long Island, and the Hudson Valley on Sunday, creating hazardous travel conditions. The snowstorm will transition into arctic cold early next week, dropping temperatures to single digits and introducing dangerous wind chills.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall totals are expected to range from 2-5 inches in the NYC metro area and up to 8 inches in the Hudson Valley. Snowfall rates could reach up to 1 inch per hour Sunday evening, making travel along major routes, including I-95, treacherous. The storm will taper off early Monday, but plunging temperatures will increase the risk of icy roads.

By Monday night, wind chills could drop to as low as -15°F, with high temperatures barely reaching the 20s through midweek. Cold Weather Advisories may be issued, urging residents to prepare for freezing pipes, infrastructure disruptions, and the risk of frostbite.

The five-day forecast shows improvement later in the week, with temperatures expected to rebound slightly by Thursday. However, residents should prepare for extended periods of bitter cold. Dress in layers, avoid prolonged outdoor exposure, and ensure pets are brought inside.

Stay informed about road conditions by checking NYSDOT updates and follow local weather advisories for additional alerts.
