Burlington, VT – Vermont residents should prepare for a mix of rain, gusty winds, and snow this week, followed by an arctic chill. Drivers are urged to remain cautious as icy roads and reduced visibility may pose significant hazards, especially on mountain routes.
According to the National Weather Service, the active weather begins Tuesday morning with rain showers and breezy conditions. South winds will reach up to 20 mph, with gusts over 40 mph possible. By Tuesday night, temperatures will drop to the low 30s as skies clear briefly before midweek snow arrives.
On Wednesday, rain will develop early and transition to snow in the evening. Forecasters predict light snow accumulation across higher elevations, with slick road conditions anticipated on routes like U.S. Route 7 and the Green Mountains. Drivers should expect reduced visibility and delays during evening commutes.
Thursday brings additional snow showers, particularly in the morning, with highs only reaching the mid-30s. A cold front will sweep through Vermont late Thursday, driving temperatures down significantly into Friday. Overnight lows will plummet into the single digits, with Friday’s daytime highs struggling to climb above 25°F. Wind chills may drop below zero, especially in exposed areas.
Heading into the weekend, Arctic air will dominate, keeping highs in the teens and lows near zero. Snow showers remain possible on Saturday, so residents are encouraged to bundle up and limit outdoor exposure.
The National Weather Service advises keeping an eye on updated forecasts and travel conditions at weather.gov/btv for real-time updates. Plan accordingly, stay safe on the roads, and dress for extreme cold as winter makes its presence known in Vermont this week.
