Burlington, VT – A cloudy and overcast day is unfolding across much of Vermont as precipitation tapers off and temperatures hover in the 40s and low 50s.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, light rain and high-elevation snow are expected to dwindle through Friday morning, leaving behind mostly cloudy skies. High temperatures will range between 43 and 52 degrees Fahrenheit, with light winds from the south to southeast at 5 to 10 mph. However, northeast winds are likely in the St. Lawrence Valley.

While no major hazards are forecast, the persistent cloud cover and cool air will keep the state on the dreary side, limiting outdoor activity and contributing to slow drying in recently dampened areas. Drivers may still encounter slick patches on higher elevation roads early in the day.

Residents are encouraged to dress in layers, especially in the morning hours, and prepare for limited sunshine throughout the day. Those commuting across the northern counties should also be aware of varying wind directions near the St. Lawrence region.

Conditions are expected to improve slightly by Saturday as drier air begins to filter in, though skies may remain mostly cloudy into the weekend.
