Vermont – Bright sun and mild air are giving way to a fast-moving storm, and conditions will shift quickly from dry pavement to wet roads and falling temperatures across Burlington.

According to the National Weather Service, rain develops later today with a 60% chance increasing into Sunday, when coverage reaches near 90%. Gusty south winds may reach up to 38 mph before a colder northwest flow takes over.

Across Burlington, South Burlington, and along I-89, travel remains smooth early, but conditions deteriorate into the evening. Rain becomes steady, reducing visibility and creating slick roads. Plan extra time if heading out later today or into Sunday morning.

By Sunday, temperatures fall into the mid-40s with widespread rain. As colder air arrives late in the day, a brief rain-to-snow mix becomes possible, especially in higher elevations. While accumulation stays light, slushy patches could form on untreated roads.

The bigger concern develops into early Monday. Temperatures drop to near 32°F Sunday night, then fall further to around 25°F by Monday night. Any leftover moisture may refreeze, creating icy spots on bridges and back roads. This setup increases the risk for early morning travel issues.

Monday stays chilly with highs near 39°F under partial sunshine. Conditions improve, but roads may remain slick early. By Tuesday, sunshine returns with highs near the upper 40s and a gradual warm-up continues into midweek.
