New York – Warm sunshine is fading and a colder edge is moving in, setting up a fast-changing stretch of wet roads, falling temperatures, and even a brief rain-to-snow mix across the Southern Tier.

According to the National Weather Service, showers increase late today into Sunday with an 80% chance of rain, followed by a chance of rain and snow as temperatures drop. Winds may gust over 20 mph as colder air pushes in. Conditions will shift quickly from mild to chilly within hours.

Across Binghamton, Johnson City, and Vestal, roads will turn slick as rain develops and becomes steady. Travel along Route 17, I-81, and local roads may slow during heavier showers. Plan extra time and keep headlights on, especially toward evening and into Sunday morning.

By Sunday, temperatures struggle into the upper 40s. Rain continues before mixing with wet snow late in the day and into the night. While accumulation looks limited, slushy patches could develop, especially on elevated surfaces and less-traveled roads.

The biggest concern arrives late Sunday night into early Monday. Temperatures drop to around 30°F, then plunge further to near 24°F by Monday night. Any leftover moisture may refreeze, creating icy spots on bridges and untreated roads. This is a classic spring freeze setup that can catch drivers off guard.

Monday stays cold with highs near 42°F before a gradual recovery begins. Sunshine returns Tuesday with highs in the mid-50s, followed by a steady warm-up into the 60s by midweek.

Five Day Forecast for Binghamton, NY:
