Burlington, VT – A mix of snow showers, warmer temperatures, and heavy rainfall could create hazardous conditions across Vermont this week. The National Weather Service warns that rising temperatures will melt existing snow, increasing the risk of ice jams and river flooding by the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, mostly sunny skies are expected Wednesday, with highs near 31°F and winds from the north at 7 to 10 mph. A 30% chance of snow showers will develop overnight, with light accumulation possible. By Thursday, additional snow showers may occur in the morning before clearing with a high of 43°F.

By Friday, temperatures will rise into the low 50s, with increased sunshine, but the warming trend will intensify flood risks. A storm system moving in Saturday night into Sunday could bring widespread rain, with precipitation chances reaching 80%. Rapid snowmelt combined with moderate to heavy rainfall may cause rivers to rise quickly, increasing the threat of localized flooding.

Drivers should remain cautious on roadways, especially near rivers and low-lying areas. Officials recommend monitoring forecasts and preparing for potential flooding, particularly in areas prone to ice jams.

Looking ahead, temperatures will continue trending above normal into next week, bringing the potential for additional rainfall. Stay updated with the latest weather alerts and travel conditions.
