Burlington, VT – Vermont residents are bracing for extreme cold as subzero temperatures and dangerous wind chills grip the region. Today’s wind chill values will drop as low as -25 degrees, posing risks of frostbite and hypothermia within minutes.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Burlington, temperatures are beginning near zero today but will feel significantly colder with light winds. This Arctic chill is expected to moderate by Thursday afternoon, with highs reaching the teens. However, wind chill values will remain harsh during early mornings.

Tonight will bring mostly clear skies but will continue the bitter trend with lows near -8 degrees. Thursday will see a slight chance of snow showers between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., followed by mostly cloudy conditions with a high near 22 degrees.

By Friday, conditions will improve slightly with sunny skies and highs in the low 20s, but overnight temperatures will still dip into single digits. The weekend forecast calls for partly sunny skies and highs in the mid-20s Saturday and near freezing Sunday, offering some relief.

Residents are advised to dress in layers, limit outdoor exposure, and check on neighbors and pets. Travelers near Lake Champlain should prepare for icy roads and reduced visibility during snow showers Thursday.
