Burlington, VT – A mix of snow and ice is expected to sweep across Vermont and northern New York starting Friday night, potentially disrupting travel and causing isolated power outages through Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 8 p.m. Friday until 2 p.m. Sunday across a wide region, including Burlington, Montpelier, St. Albans, Plattsburgh, and Malone. Snow totals are forecast between 3 to 7 inches in Vermont and 1 to 4 inches in parts of New York. Ice accumulations could range from one-tenth to three-tenths of an inch, with the heaviest impacts expected Friday night into Saturday.

Forecasters warn that snow and ice loading on power lines and tree limbs could lead to scattered outages. Roads may become slick and hazardous, especially in higher elevations and during overnight hours.

Residents are urged to delay nonessential travel and keep emergency supplies on hand. Use caution on untreated roads, and consider checking for school or business closures.

Officials note that some areas may see upgraded alerts if conditions worsen. Stay tuned to local forecasts and advisories as the storm progresses through the weekend.
