Danville, IL – A Danville man was arrested early Thursday after police say surveillance video provided by residents helped identify him in connection with a series of vehicle burglaries and attempted vehicle burglaries on the city’s northwest side.
According to the Danville Police Department, officers responded during the early morning hours of Thursday, July 23, 2026, to multiple reports of vehicle burglaries and attempted break-ins.
Police said concerned residents contacted investigators to report they had video footage of the suspect. After reviewing the recordings, officers identified the suspect as 20-year-old Dawson Shaw of Danville. Authorities also determined Shaw was out on pretrial release in a separate pending criminal case in Vermilion County.
At approximately 11:24 a.m., an officer located Shaw walking in the 1500 block of Harmon Street and took him into custody without incident.
According to police, Shaw was transported to the Vermilion County Jail and booked on charges of alleged burglary to a vehicle and criminal trespass to a vehicle.
The Danville Police Department credited members of the community for providing information and video evidence that helped investigators quickly identify and locate the suspect.
