Danville, IL – A 20-year-old Danville man was arrested Monday after police say officers recovered a firearm during a traffic stop conducted by the Danville Police Department’s Street Crimes Unit.

According to the Danville Police Department, officers were conducting enforcement near the intersection of Fowler Avenue and English Street on Monday, July 20, when they observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Fowler Avenue with a suspended registration.

Police said the vehicle pulled into a driveway in the 900 block of Fowler Avenue as officers initiated the traffic stop.

According to investigators, Demarion Tyler, 20, of Danville, exited the vehicle and allegedly ignored officers’ commands to stop. Police said Tyler walked toward a nearby residence and attempted to hand the backpack he was wearing to another individual inside the home.

Officers detained Tyler and recovered an attached firearm from inside the backpack, according to the police department.

Tyler was arrested and charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. He was transported to the Vermilion County Jail, where he was booked on the charge.

The allegations against Tyler have been made by law enforcement, and the charge has not been proven in court. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

The Danville Police Department did not release additional details about the firearm or whether Tyler remains in custody.
