Salt Lake City, UT – A winter storm moving through northern Utah will bring accumulating snow to the mountains and create potential travel issues by Tuesday morning. Motorists along I-15 and mountain passes should prepare for slick conditions and delays.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Salt Lake City, snow is expected to intensify overnight Monday into Tuesday morning. Mountain regions could see up to 4-10 inches of snow, while valleys, including Davis County, face a medium chance of lake effect snow. This may impact early commuters, particularly in areas near the Upper Cottonwoods and Utah-Idaho border.
Tuesday’s morning low will hover around 23°F, with snow diminishing by mid-morning and sunny skies emerging later in the day. Winds could create additional visibility issues in higher elevations. Travelers are advised to carry chains, check local road conditions, and allow extra time for morning commutes.
Looking ahead, Wednesday and Thursday promise a break from precipitation with sunny skies and highs reaching the mid-50s. Overnight lows will dip into the mid-30s, so expect lingering icy conditions in shaded areas. By Friday, temperatures climb slightly, offering calmer weather to close out the week.
Those traveling through mountain routes should monitor updates from the NWS and Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) for the latest road conditions and closures.
