Salt Lake City, Utah – Drivers and residents along the Wasatch Front should prepare for dangerous wind gusts tonight, as downslope easterly winds are expected to reach up to 50 mph in northern Utah. The strongest impacts are likely in Farmington, Centerville, and areas near the mouth of Weber Canyon, where blowing debris and hazardous travel are possible.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Wind Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday until 4 a.m. Wednesday. While gusts up to 50 mph are forecast in wind-prone zones, other areas along the northern Wasatch Front—including Bountiful, Ogden, and Layton—could still see gusts between 30 and 40 mph.

High-profile vehicles traveling along I-15 and US-89 should use extreme caution, especially near canyon mouths where crosswinds can be sudden and severe. Officials recommend securing outdoor objects, such as trampolines and trash bins, before winds pick up this evening.

These downslope wind events are common in northern Utah during spring, but tonight’s strength may rival similar events seen in 2021. Crews are on alert for potential outages and fallen trees.

The advisory remains in effect through 4 a.m. Wednesday, with updates expected if conditions worsen.
