Salt Lake City, Utah – Residents across central and eastern Utah face an elevated wildfire threat through Wednesday as strong winds and extremely dry air create conditions favorable for rapid fire growth across multiple regions of the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect from Monday through Wednesday for portions of Utah’s central mountains and eastern valleys. Forecasters expect west to northwest wind gusts reaching 35 mph, combined with critically low humidity levels between 6% and 10%.

The warning area includes communities near Richfield, Duchesne, Price and surrounding fire-prone terrain where dry vegetation can ignite easily. Fire officials warn that any spark from equipment, vehicles, campfires or outdoor burning could spread quickly under the expected weather conditions.

The combination of gusty winds and exceptionally dry air increases the potential for both new wildfire starts and rapid expansion of existing fires. Smoke could also reduce visibility on stretches of U.S. 6, U.S. 40 and Interstate 70 if any fires develop.

Residents are urged to avoid activities that create sparks, including welding, debris burning and parking vehicles on dry grass. Outdoor recreationists should use extreme caution with campfires and ensure all smoking materials are completely extinguished.

The highest fire danger is expected during the afternoon and evening hours each day through Wednesday. Additional fire weather alerts may be issued if conditions worsen or if wildfire activity increases across the region.
