Salt Lake City, UT – The coldest air of the season is set to sweep across Utah and southwest Wyoming, bringing dangerously low temperatures through Tuesday morning. Officials are urging residents to prepare for extreme cold that poses risks to health and safety.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Salt Lake City, temperatures will drop to single digits Monday and Tuesday mornings, with wind chills as low as -10°F in urban areas. High-elevation valleys, including Bryce Canyon and Bear River Desert, could experience wind chills between -20°F and -30°F.

The NWS advises residents to dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and ensure pets are protected from the cold. Exposure to such conditions without proper clothing or shelter could result in frostbite or hypothermia within minutes.

Temperatures in Salt Lake City are expected to reach a high of 24°F Monday but dip to 8°F overnight. Tuesday will bring slightly warmer conditions, with a high near 33°F.

Residents are encouraged to pack emergency kits for travel, check on vulnerable neighbors, and monitor updates from local authorities.
